Ich habe gerade etwas trauriges erfahren. Und ich gehe davon aus, dass diese Nachricht kein schlechter Scherz ist. Der Autor eines Blogs, den ich seit Jahren verfolge, hat sich am 23.5.2006 das Leben genommen. Sein Blog war einer der ersten Korea Blogs, auf den ich aufmerksam geworden bin - schon lange vor meiner ersten Reise in dieses tolle Land. Auch seine neuen Berichte aus China habe ich verfolgt. Ich kannte diesen Menschen nicht, nur seine Geschichten, aber ich werde ihn irgendwie doch vermissen.

Lieber Shawn, Danke fuer die vielen Eindruecke aus Korea und China. Gerne haette ich es Dir einmal persoenlich gesagt.

Lineares und zyklisches Zeitverstaendnis

Neulich hat mein Professor im Internationalen Marketing auf die unterschiedliche Zeitauffassung in westlichen und asiatischen Kulturen hingewiesen. Im asiatischen Raum treffen wir ueberwiegend auf ein zyklisches Zeitverstaendnis (universale Wiederkehr des Gleichen), waehrend in unseren Breitengraden ein lineares Zeitverstaendnis (Zeitpunkte gehen vorbei und wiederholen sich nicht) vorherrschst.

Die weltliche Zeitauffassung wird im allgemeinen in lineares und zyklisches Zeitverständnis unterschieden. Die lineare Zeitvorstellung beschreibt die Zeit als einen fortschreitenden Strom, der irgendwo seinen Anfangspunkt hat und sich kontinuierlich auf seinen Endpunkt zugbewegt. In der zyklischen Vorstellung der Zeit geht es dagegen um die ständige Wiederkehr von Ereignissen, wobei die zyklischen Kreise von unterschiedlicher Größe sind oder besser gesagt die Ereignisse in unterschiedlichen Zeitabständen wiederkehren, beispielsweise Tag und Nacht, der Wechsel von Vollmond, Halbmond und Neumond oder der Wechsel der Jahreszeiten, Frühling, Sommer, Herbst und Winter. Was bedeutet das nun? Im Prinzip, dass wir Zeit als knappes Gut ansehen, welches optimal genutzt werden muss. Daher ist uns das Einhalten von Terminen, Puenktlichkeit usw. auch sehr wichtig. Diese Normen spielen dagegen in Asien scheinbar eine nicht so grosse Rolle. Schliesslich geht die Sonne jeden Tag von neuem auf, und die Zeit kann somit (bis zum naechsten Zyklus) andersweitig verwendet werden...

Dieser kulturelle Unterschied ist natuerlich nicht nur fuer Geschaeftsbeziehungen relevant, sondern erklaert sicher auch so einige kleine Missverstaendnisse in zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen.
